Kota Kinabalu: Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia), in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI), here, has launched an innovative passport service initiative, aimed at improving access and convenience for Indonesian citizens residing in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
Pos Malaysia, in a statement, said Indonesian citizens can submit their passport applications in Kota Kinabalu, and receive their processed passports via Pos Laju courier services throughout Sabah.
“Applicants are also given the option to send their immigration documents to the nearest post office, providing a more convenient and practical application experience,” it said.
“This initiative offers a safer, smoother and more time-saving, as well as cost-effective, alternative, compared with the previous requirement for Indonesian citizens to secure temporary accommodation in Kota Kinabalu throughout the passport application process,” it said.
The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 150,000 Indonesian citizens residing in Sabah and Labuan, thereby strengthening cross-border service delivery, and demonstrating the value of effective public-private sector collaboration.
Pos Malaysia also plans to gradually expand the service to all diplomatic missions and consulates of the Republic of Indonesia in Malaysia.
“The nationwide rollout will include the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur, as well as the Consulates General of the Republic of Indonesia in Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Tawau,” it said.
