The State Fire and Rescue Department said it received a distress call at 11.12am and deployed nine firefighters from the Semporna Fire and Rescue Station in two fire engines, which arrived at the scene four minutes later.

The operation commander reported that seven non-permanent squatter houses measuring 55 x 100 square feet were involved and were 100 per cent destroyed, with firefighters extinguishing the blaze using two streams and two nozzles supplied by water from the fire engines’ tanks.
