PENAMPANG: Parti Warisan Penampang Division called on the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to investigate whether the blockage at Sungai Petagas, located behind the Holy Nativity Church in Terawi, is behind the increased flooding there.
The floods have affected villages along Sungai Moyog, including Kg. Dabak, Kg. Tanaki, Kg. Nambazan, Kg. Ramayah–Tadau and Kg. Sugud.
The Division’s Women’s Information Chief Agnes Kinsil said they were told during an inspection that the blockage, created through land filling, was intended to divert the flow of water from Sungai Moyog to Sungai Putatan.
“This land filling is believed to be one of the reasons settlements along Jalan Penampang–Papar Lama frequently experience major flooding. Because the flow of Sungai Moyog, particularly along Jalan Putatan–Ramayah has become affected, resulting in overflow,” she said in a statement on Friday.
