KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Government will improve its Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) scholarship scheme to benefit more eligible students, while recognising the strong academic performance and dual-qualification strength of Chinese independent school students.
Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib said this followed discussions with Sabah Dong Zong on scholarship mechanisms and assessment standards.
He noted that Chinese independent school students in Sabah consistently record over a 90 percent SPM pass rate and are required to sit for SPM before the UEC, giving them both qualifications.
The state government, he said, will continue working with Sabah Dong Zong to refine the scheme and expand access to higher education for deserving UEC students.
