Cops reel in Bruneian for fishing shop break-in
The suspect arrested at his house.
BEAUFORT: Police arrested a 34-year-old unemployed man suspected of breaking into and stealing from a premises in Kampung Weston on Wednesday.

Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Wong Leong Meng said on Friday that the shop owner discovered the break-in through CCTV footage and reported it to the Weston Police Station.

The suspect, a Bruneian residing in Weston, was arrested after police identified him from CCTV recordings provided by the shop owner.

The complainant became suspicious after noticing that the shop’s wooden floorboards had been pried open.

Upon inspection, the owner found items missing and further examination of CCTV footage revealed a man entering the premises through the damaged floor.

Initial investigations showed that the targeted premises is a fishing equipment shop located in Pekan Weston.

The complainant had left the shop secured after closing at 5pm before the break-in occurred.

The CCTV footage showed a shirtless man breaking in through the wooden floor and removing various items from the shop.

“Acting on this information, on Wednesday at about 5.45pm, a police team went to an unnumbered house in Kampung Hulu Weston and arrested a man suspected of involvement in the case,” Wong said.

Based on the suspect’s initial confession, he admitted involvement in the incident.

Among the items seized are fishing hooks of various brands.
