SEMPORNA: Four men were arrested for suspected involvement in a boat engine theft at a resort here on January 27.
District Police Chief Supt Tan Hiap Wah said the owner noticed his Yamaha 15 HP engine, stored in the resort’s storeroom, was missing around 7.30am, believed stolen.
CCTV footage showed that at about 12.37am, three men arrived in a small boat. One suspect entered the storeroom, took the engine, and escaped in the same boat.
“Following the incident, a police team from the Crime Investigation Division, assisted by the Semporna Marine Police Force, arrested a foreigner on January 28 at about 10.55pm in an unnumbered house at Kampung Bangau-Bangau.
“Police also seized a wooden boat and a Yamaha 40 HP engine. This arrest led to the detention of three other men in Kampung Pulau Lumanggas,” he said.
Police also seized a Yamaha 15 HP engine believed to be related to the stolen engine case. All suspects did not have valid identification documents.
They are currently detained for investigation under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
Tan stressed that Semporna Police remain committed to combating crime and urged the public to provide information for immediate action.
