Kota Kinabalu: Monaco's consistent environmental positioning as a leader in ocean protection reinforces its credibility as a host destination for high-level BE, said Yacht Club De Monaco General Secretary and Managing Director cum Chambre Monégasque du Yachting Bernard D’Alessandri.
By embedding sustainability into its BE strategy, Monaco converts environmental responsibility into brand differentiation, investor confidence and talent attraction.
Bernard also emphasised that the scientific organisations and international events held in the nation contributed to highlighting concrete findings, raising awareness and delivering a message of urgency and responsibility when it comes to climate action.
“All these efforts share a single ambition – to invent a new model of development that reconciles the needs of humanity with the preservation of the ocean,” he said.
Unable to attend the Third International Business Events (BE) Forum in person, D’Alessandri prepared a video presentation to be showcased during his session, introducing Yacht Club De Monaco and highlighting how a vision rooted in efficiency, sustainability and responsible tourism helped transform the nation.
“Monaco’s model framed sustainability as a value-creation strategy, one that safeguards long-term attractiveness while opening new markets in clean technology, maritime innovation and knowledge exchange,” he said on Wednesday.
The yacht club is presented as far more than a marina or private club, functioning also as a BE venue, transforming BE into economic multipliers which brings high-value visitors, international visibility, knowledge transfer and partnerships between public institutions, private investors and innovators.
In this model, BE are not episodic tourism activities, but are structural components of the nation’s economic strategy.
“BE also play a crucial role by accelerating adoption of clean energy solutions, showcasing pilot projects and aligning industry standards around sustainability,” he said.
Events such as the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge which require participants to design, build and race boats powered by zero-emission alternative energy resources demonstrate how competition, visibility and collaboration can drive technological progress faster than regulation alone.
In this context, climate change acts as a market signal — pushing innovation forward and rewarding destinations that provide credible, real-world platforms for experimentation.
