TAWAU: Thaipusam is not just a sacred day for Hindus, based on the participants who turned up.
The Ayya Veeran temple here dedicated to Lord Shiva saw even Kadazan and Chinese partaking in the kavadi ritual which included body piercing.
That’s not all – the temple’s owner is not even Hindu but a Sikh.
Sunder Singh, who started the temple in 2016, and about 100 men and women took part in the kavadi ritual, which involved observing a vegetarian diet for a month and performing body piercings on the day of the festival.
