SMJK Ken Hwa Keningau capture 2 golds, a silver and 3 bronzes

MEMBAKUT: SMJK Ken Hwa Keningau jump rope team delivered an impressive performance by bringing home two gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the State Level Lunoks Jumpers Challenge held at Dewan SMK Membakut, recently. 

The competition organised by Kelab Senamrobik Lunoks with approval from the Sabah State Education Department saw the 22-member team competing in all four events, namely Single Rope Speed Sprint, Double Dutch Speed Sprint, Figure 8 and Single Rope Speed Relay.

Owen Baga Ng You Siang was the toast of the team with one individual gold in the Senior Boys (13-17) Single Rope Speed Sprint (1 x 30 seconds) and a team gold in the Double Dutch Speed Sprint Relay (Senior Boys) with Charleye Khoo and LyeamMaeron.

The only silver medal was won by the team of Julian Lee, Hayden, Darien, Hudson, Darlene and Joy Joliu in the Figure 8 (60 seconds) Senior Mixed category.

The bronze medals were delivered by Junior Lee in the Senior Boys (13-17) Single Rope Speed Sprint (1 x 30s) and in the Single Rope Speed Relay (4 x 30 seconds) Senior Mixed team byOwen, Charleye, Dyzynia Nicollesha and Joanne Morrise.

Owen also teamed up with Dyzynia, Joanne, Lyeam Maeron and Vincent Vun to capture the bronze in the Senior Mixed Figure 8 (60 seconds) Senior event.

The School’s Jump Rope coach Stephonie Dominic said the impressive outing was the result of the school’s jump rope programme which started in 2022.

“The programme began with just two form Two students under a certified coach has since grown significantly.

“Today we are competing at the state level with strong results. This shows the commitment and discipline of our athletes.

“The exposure gained from such competitions would help further develop the students’ skills and confidence. 

“The experience is invaluable. We hope to continue nurturing more talents and elevate jump rope as a competitive sport in Sabah,” she said.

She added that this year also marked the official formation of the Special Jump Rope Club with 33 students aged between 13 and 17, who are trained in various disciplines including rhythmic jumping, high-performance single rope, Double Dutch and freestyle routines.
