Jailed, fined for damaging property
The charge under Section 426 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 43-year-old man was jailed seven months and fined RM2,000 or three months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for committing mischief by damaging property belonging to the Sabah Water Department.

Johanes Kia Lodo Bikus pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to tampering with and dismantling components of a meter switch panel at a pump house at the Nountun 2 Reservoir along Jalan Bantayan Minintod, Kampung Bantayan, Inanam, at 3.45pm on April 24 this year.

Johanes committed the offence with an accomplice who is still at large.

The court heard that police, acting on information, conducted surveillance at the location and spotted two men behaving suspiciously and removing components from the premises. One managed to escape while Johanes was arrested at the scene.

Further checks found several components had been dismantled.

In another case, a 31-year-old man was jailed a total of 14 months and fined RM2,000 after pleading guilty to two counts of possessing stolen motorcycles.

Marjin Jinur was jailed seven months and fined RM1,000 or two months’ jail for each charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

On the first count, he was found in possession of a stolen Yamaha 135LC motorcycle belonging to Taufik Gesi at a bushy area along Jalan Kampung Inanam Laut, Inanam, at 5pm on April 23 this year.

On the second count, he was found with another stolen Yamaha LC motorcycle belonging to Primus Odysa at Taman Sri Maju, Sepanggar, at 3.45pm on the same day.

The court heard that both motorcycles were reported missing earlier this month before police later recovered them during operations.

Acting on information, police arrested Marjin on April 23 this year and recovered the stolen motorcycle from him.

The court ordered all jail sentences to run concurrently from the date of arrest.
