Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Karate Association (SKA) created history by winning the overall title four times in a row at the 34th Makaf National Karate Championship 2026 for U14, Cadet, Junior, and U21 categories (including Pre-Sukma) held at Dewan Konvensyen Bukit Raja, Majlis Bandaraya Diraja Klang (MBDK), Selangor recently.
They captured a total of 22 golds, 12 silvers and 18 bronzes to top the medal tally, well ahead of second placed Selangor State Karate-Do Association, who won five golds, five silvers and nine bronzes followed by Johor Karate Association with four golds, two silvers and five bronzes.

The gold medal winners in the U14 Division were Keysha Durrani – Ind Kumite -52kg; Benn Arthur – Ind Kumite -45kg; Habib Luthfi – Ind Kata; Auni Qaisara Mohd Nazri – Ind Kata Female; Danish Rayyan – Ind Male Kumite -57kg; Henrique Jasper Sevilla – Ind Male Kumite +55kg; Muhammad Rizki – Ind Male Kumite -55kg and Zanna Mae Marinus – Ind Female Kumite -42kg .
The Cadet Division winners were Audrey Andry – Ind Female Kumite -54kg; Russel Azrael Wong – Ind Male Kumite -50kg; Nur Rasyiqah Razmi – Female Kumite -53kg and Theo Noah Thomas – Male Kumite +70kg.
Nur Rasyiqah Fariah Razmi – Ind Female Kata, Muhammad Syahzrullah Halim – Male Kumite -55kg and Amirah Shahindah – Female Ind Kumite +66kg contributed the gold medals in the Junior Division, while Adeola Fay Robert – Female Kumite -61kg, Ivy Olivera Donny – Ind Female Kata, Mukhriz Mazlan – Ind Male Kata, Jericho Jones Jason – Male Kumite -60kg, Syahmi Izzan Saharin – Male Kumite -55kg, Nur Radhiah Fatihah Razmi – Female Kumite -55kg and Ameera Jnita Liew – Female Kumite -50kg ruled supreme in the U21 Division.

SKA secretary general Julian Chin praised the athletes for their achievement despite strong opposition.
“I am very happy with the overall performance of our athletes. It was a remarkable achievement amidst the stiff competition with the participation of more than 1,000 athletes.
“The result indicated that we are on the right track in our preparation for the Sukma Games, but there is still some work to be done,” he said.
Meanwhile, four State karate officials have successfully passed their full licensing examinations during the competition.
Choo Vui Leong has been recognised as a Kata Judge A, while Anney Henry has accomplished the dual distinction of Kumite Referee A and Kata Judge A.
Another official Christy Gaibin has secured her position as Kumite Referee B and Kata Judge A, while Cyril Oh has been designated as a full licence referee.
