SEMPORNA: The Marine Police Force foiled an attempt to smuggle untaxed cigarettes via Balimbang waters, here, on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Marine Police said a speedboat in suspicious condition was spotted during an operation in the area at about 4am.

The team then pursued the vessel. However, during the chase, the suspect threw several objects into the sea before fleeing into shallow waters towards Tanjung Manimpa.
“Inspection of the items thrown by the suspect found two sacks containing about 400 boxes of cigarettes believed to be untaxed.
“All the seizures were estimated to be worth RM9,600,” it said, adding that the case will be investigated under the Customs Act 1967.
