TAWAU: Security along the national border, particularly on Pulau Sebatik, remains under control despite ongoing discussions surrounding the Malaysia-Indonesia border demarcation issue.
Malaysian Army Eastern Field Commander Lt Gen Datuk Mohd Sofi Md Lepi (

He said the government is planning to build four border control posts on the island, with each post to be manned by personnel from the Malaysian Armed Forces, including the Malaysian Army and the General Operations Force (PGA) under the Royal Malaysia Police.
Mohd Sofi said the projects had been approved by the National Security Council and are currently at the planning stage involving land acquisition and tender processes before the next phase, which is expected to take about a year.
He said the Malaysian Army would continue carrying out border security duties in cooperation with the Indonesian National Armed Forces to curb cross-border crimes such as smuggling and human trafficking, while also welcoming plans to develop a Remote Sensor Site in Pulau Malawali to strengthen security monitoring.
