KUNAK: Concessionaire maintenance workers have begun structural repair works on a critical section with major damage along Jalan Kadazan Mostyn on Thursday.

Contractors at the site said full repairs covering nearly three kilometres of the road would continue next week ahead of the Aidil Adha celebration.

Residents who use the gravel road daily had previously faced difficulties due to large depressions on the road surface caused by strong water flow during heavy rain in the area.

Jalan Kadazan Mostyn connects Kampung Mostyn Lama, Kampung Sri Bahagia, SK Mostyn, the Sabah Electricity Main Intake Substation (PMU-SE) and several residential settlements here.

Assistant Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister and Kunak Assemblyman Datuk Seri Anil Sandhu hoped the concessionaire would conduct frequent monitoring along the route to address public complaints and carry out immediate repairs, while the road is also understood to be among the rural roads in Kunak scheduled for upgrading works expected to begin this year.
