KENINGAU: A foreigner was arrested less than 24 hours after he was believed to have been involved in a motorcycle theft case in the district through “Op Lejang” conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division (BSJ) of the Keningau District Police Headquarters (IPD) on Thursday.
District Police Chief Superintendent Yampil Garai said the 19-year-old suspect was detained at around 4.40pm by the roadside in the Taman Kota housing area after he was found riding a motorcycle under suspicious circumstances.

Inspection revealed that the red Yamaha motorcycle bearing registration number SYF6640 had been reported stolen in a police report lodged on the same day.
A 25-year-old restaurant assistant lodged a report after discovering that his motorcycle had gone missing in front of Restoran Bebas, Keningau.
The suspect did not possess any identification documents and was taken to the Keningau IPD together with the seized motorcycle for further action.
Initial investigations found that the suspect admitted to stealing a motorcycle together with an accomplice who is still at large, known only as “Tom”.
The suspect also confessed to being involved in several motorcycle theft cases in the Keningau district with the same accomplice.
Police said the suspect has no previous criminal record, while a urine screening test will be conducted after the remand application.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
The suspect has been remanded for four days from May 16 to 19, 2026, to assist investigations.
