Plumbing contractors admit price pressure is self-inflicted
Chow, who has over a decade of experience in water reticulation systems, said the habit of winning contracts through the lowest bid has created a race to the bottom that weakens safety standards and undermines long-term project performance.
Kota Kinabalu: Negeri Sembilan Plumber Association President Wayne Chow said plumbing contractors are largely responsible for the pricing crisis they face and that competing on cost alone is destroying quality and long-term performance.

“The pricing pressure actually comes from ourselves,” Chow said at the Plumbing Asia 2026 Conference and Expo held at the Sabah International Convention Centre, recently.

“Let’s say for example, if I want to succeed in getting the project, I will put the lowest price. But are we honest with ourselves? Is the price that we put really below the market price?” he said.
