TUARAN: A proposal to upgrade Tamparuli into a full district would help accelerate development, improve public service delivery and strengthen poverty eradication efforts, said Tamparuli Community Development Leader (UPPM) Jeffry Teo.
Representing Tuaran Member of Parliament and Tamparuli Assemblyman Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau at a Kaamatan Festival celebration in Kampung Bukit Giling, Telipok, Jeffry said Tamparuli’s growing role as an administrative, economic and population centre within the Tuaran parliamentary constituency justified the move.
He said full district status would enable more focused planning, faster implementation of development projects and better coordination of government services, while creating greater opportunities to address poverty through sustainable economic growth, investment, entrepreneurship and job creation.
Jeffry said Tamparuli has the potential to meet the State Government’s requirements for district status, citing its strategic location, development potential and longstanding role as a regional hub, while noting that areas such as Sook and Paitan had recently been upgraded to full districts.
At the event, Sabah Rubber Industry Board (LIGS) Chairman Datuk Seri Jahid Jahim officiated the opening of the upgraded RM150,000 multipurpose hall in Kampung Bukit Giling, while organising chairman Henry Kinsun said the Kaamatan Festival continues to preserve Kadazan Dusun cultural heritage, promote unity and support community development.
