Charged with drug trafficking 
The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 33-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with trafficking 573.14 gram of 3, 4 Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA).

No plea was recorded from Muhamad Hamado Abd Jafar after the charge was read before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus.

Hamado was accused of trafficking the drug on June 3, this year, at 7.15pm, in front of a clinic at Taipan, Inanam.

The prosecution applied another mention date pending the chemist’s report.

The court fixed Aug 6 for mention while waiting for the chemist’s report.

Hamado was ordered be remanded further.

In another case, a 25-year-old woman was fined RM1,000 or three months jail for having gambling paraphernalia.

Brenda Victor pleaded guilty to having a ticket for an unlicensed public lottery at the five-foot way in Inanam New Township, at 11.57am on May 26.

The offence under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 carries a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both, on conviction.

The court heard from the prosecution that that a police team conducted surveillance at the location and observed gambling activities being carried out by Brenda.

Police later approached and inspected her, leading to the discovery of items linked to an unlicensed “Wa Hui” public lottery operation.

Among the items seized were a handphone, a mobile printer, two sheets of paper containing written numbers and betting details, and RM60 in cash.

Brenda was then arrested.

A gambling expert confirmed that a receipt seized during the operation contained printed numbers and betting details relating to an unlicensed two-digit “Wa Hui” lottery.
