Joint tourism stand hailed

I FULLY support the State Government’s decision to present a joint stand with Sarawak on the Tourism Tax Bill that was bulldozed by the Government despite so many voices of concern.
I fail to see why tourists should be taxed when many hotels and resorts are struggling with poor occupancy and higher costs.
Besides, competition for tourist dollars is intense in many countries to the point that all these nations are jostling for the same tourists – from China.
Many other countries tax tourists but only because the governments find these destinations over-crowded.
I also hope these avenues for taking a joint stand will be something that the political leaders in both states will consider when it is faced with certain issues.
The call to reintroduce English as the main medium in government schools is another thing to consider.
