I AM a businessman who has been in the food business for 20 years.

I am writing this letter to Daily Express without any intention to ruin the image of other businesses but to seek an official response from the authorities.

For your information, Donggongon has been a haven for beer drinkers and other types of alcohol.

Most restaurants and eating shops here sell beer. However, some eating shops are selling them wholesale.

They keep stocks of up to 500 boxes of beer of various brands.

As a taxpayer, wish to seek an explanation from the Licensing Division of the Penampang District Council regarding the type of licence required to run a wholesale liquor business.

I wonder if the shop bosses are allowed to sell beer on wholesale basis if they are only licensed to operate a restaurant. Or are they doing this beer wholesale business illegally. After all, they have been selling tax-free alcoholic drinks. Has Kota Kinabalu ever been a tax-free area?

It is an open secret that these types of beer have been sold openly in Penampang as well as many other areas in Sabah and I am curious to know what our Customs Department officers are doing.

I demand an explanation from heads of the relevant government agencies as stated below.
