THE latest version of the MyKad is available from Jan 3. Malaysians have been encouraged to apply for it although there is no deadline yet. However, in the case of Sabah, it is best that the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) is set up first before the exercise for new IC.

Otherwise we will just be confirming those who obtained their ICs with dubious means in the first place!

Another "must do" for the National Registration Department (NRD) is this - in doubtful cases involving Indonesians, Filipinos and Pakistanis, they must produce letters of confirmation from either the Village Head (KK) or JKKK or the local Native Court certifying that they are locals.

As experienced during the last IC Change exercise a few years ago, the illegal immigrants, and not locals, got their hands on the MyKad first!

Some of them could not name the place (in Sabah) where they were born while others named places which were either non-existent or were forests!

If the NRD does not want to be accused of this or that, then I see no reason why it should not impose stricter conditions before the new IC is given out to these doubtful applicants.

Also, there must be a panel of say, three officers, to determine.

It is too dangerous for just one single staff of NRD to accept and approve an application!

Also, throughout the exercise, the NRD must work hand-in-hand with the police.

Rejecting an application is not good enough.

Any illegal immigrant or false IC holder detected must be handed over to the police straight away.

Starting this month, all NRD offices throughout Sabah will be swarmed by these illegals, for the new IC will confirm their status as Malaysian citizens.

I hope our politicians will not pretend not to know or just keep quiet.

Your future generation is also at stake!
