‘Be kind to strays’
THERE was a mama dog, whom we named Renè, who gave birth to five puppies in a drain. Fortunately, it was dry weather at the time so when the feeder informed the rescue team of the newborn but at-risk litter, Renè and her five pups were quickly rescued and placed in safe care!

If the rescue had been delayed to a later date (i.e. June 18, 2021) when it was pouring heavily which caused flash floods, the pups and likely even Rene would have been swept away and drowned. How sad and what a quick end to the puppies’ lives!

Strays lead such sad life in Malaysia and often have to beg or scavenge for food in places like rubbish bins. They end up getting chased away, have stones thrown at them, kicked or shouted at etc.

Besides having to scavenge for food, they have no water to drink as many forget that dogs (and cats) need water too, which is why we always tell animal lovers to leave a bowl of fresh water discreetly outside their gate for these strays to drink especially during hot weather.

Strays are caused by humans who refuse to neuter their pets, resulting in these poor animals being dumped or abandoned at the whims and fancies of their owners who only have one thing on their mind – get rid of! It is sad because these animals are not given any choice through no fault of their own. One minute they are loved and the next, they are dumped without a second thought for their welfare and well being!

Humans really do cause all the misery on earth! Especially now with the MCO in force, strays will find it harder to find food although we know feeders still go out to feed them but what about those who do not have feeders. As such, if you see a stray give it some food and water; you would be doing a very kind deed!

Humans need to be more compassionate towards each other, especially to the strays. To be more aware of each other and not just think of themselves only! This is the only way the world will improve and animals should never be the victims of human beings.

Instead, humans should put themselves in the place of the animals and feel how these animals feel. The only way humans on this earth can live happily and harmoniously is when we stop treating animals cruelly. Animals do not harm us; we harm them. So please be kind to animals in order to make the world a better place.

Do not blame the animal. Blame the humans. Be kind to animals, please. And in this hot weather, do remember to put out some bowls of water for the strays to cool off on. Thank you!
