KENINGAU’s talented young dancer, Edgar Scout Davy, has brought immense pride to his hometown and Sabah by successfully elevating local cultural arts onto the international stage.
His recent solo performance of “Alang Kalawon Tuou” at Baloi Keningau captivated audiences and drew widespread attention, including from local dignitaries.
Edgar’s journey to international recognition is a testament to his dedication, discipline and exceptional talent.
He emerged as the Champion of the Malaysia Dance World Cup Qualifier 2026 and was also honoured with the Best Solo Award, earning the prestigious opportunity to represent Malaysia at the Final Dance World Cup 2026 in Dublin, Ireland, this July.
The achievement builds upon an already impressive record. In 2025, Edgar secured a Golden Ticket and finished fifth at the Dance World Cup Finals in Burgos, Spain.
His artistic talent was evident from a young age. At just 15, Edgar made a name for himself as the First Runner-Up in the International Cultural Night competition during the Brunei Scout Jamboree, showcasing his natural flair for performing arts and cultural expression.
Beyond the global dance arena, Edgar’s excellence has also been recognised locally. He received the Best International Co-Curricular Award from SMK Gunsanad II Keningau in 2026 and earned UPKAS recognition in both 2023 and 2024.
Today, Edgar is increasingly regarded as a young cultural icon for Sabah. His captivating performances have led to numerous invitations to perform at state, national and Borneo-wide events, as well as official functions attended by distinguished guests.
His ability to blend traditional cultural elements with contemporary dance forms has not only entertained audiences but also inspired many, proving that local heritage can serve as a bridge for young talents to reach global platforms.
Meanwhile, Bingkor State Assemblyman and Sabah Assistant Minister of Finance, Dato’ Sr Mohd Ishak Ayub, lauded Edgar’s achievements during the State-level Kaamatan Festival 2026 celebration at Hongkod Koisaan, the headquarters of the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) in Penampang.
Accompanied by his wife, Datin Tengku Aini Tengku Ibrahim, Mohd Ishak emphasised the significance of Edgar’s success for both Keningau and Sabah.
“Edgar has not only brought honour to Keningau and Sabah but has also proven that local cultural heritage can be a bridge that takes our youth to the world stage,” he said.
He noted that Edgar’s accomplishments demonstrate how talent from rural areas can excel in global competition when given continuous opportunities, guidance and support.
Mohd Ishak added that Edgar’s success shows Sabah’s cultural heritage is not merely a treasure to be preserved, but also a powerful platform for nurturing world-class talents who carry the identity of the state and nation onto the international stage.
He expressed hope that Edgar’s journey would inspire other young Sabahans to appreciate traditional arts and culture while daring to challenge themselves and make their mark globally.
“Congratulations to Edgar Scout Davy on this proud achievement. May he continue to succeed and bring glory to Keningau, Sabah and Malaysia on the world stage,” he said.
He concluded by affirming that a heritage proudly preserved will never fade with time, and that from the small stages of Sabah’s interior, the state’s young talents are carrying its name to the world.
