KENINGAU: A final year student majoring in Electrical Technology at Keningau Vocational College, Denver Eldie, is one of 33 youths from around the world selected as online project exhibitors at the Youth Stem Matters Research Conference, recently.
The programme was organised by the Youth Stem Association based in the United Kingdom and is sponsored by the University of Aberdeen, said College Head of Research and Innovation, Dr Sirhajwan Idek.
He said there were 24 projects exhibited comprising participants from 14 countries including from the South America, North America, Africa and Asia continents with the host country Britain.
“Among the highlights of the event included inspirational speaking sessions, research exhibitions, skills workshops and prizes for the participants.
“The process of selecting speakers and exhibitors for the conference was done through an open application to the youth group by sending project summaries, videos and subjective questions,” he said.
Sirhajwan said Denver led his team to build a water filter machine that can be used at home to purify water used for washing clothes, washing dishes and bathing so that it can be reused.
He said the purpose of the machine is to reduce water wastage and optimise existing water sources.
According to him, they won a medal at an innovation competition and presented the project at an online conference in 2022.
Meanwhile, Denver expressed pride in being selected as an exhibitor at the conference since the selection process was intense.
He said while the project received international recognition it could still be improved.
The Director of Keningau Vocational College, Christine Stanislaus Kinsik, commended the team’s invovlement in such innovative endeavour.
