LAHAD DATU: The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) welcomes the move to limit enrolment fees for public universities to no more than RM1,500.
Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal, said he is grateful for the step taken by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as announced in the 2024 Budget.
Yusof said it is in line with the value of Loan Advances (WPP) given by the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) to new eligible students.
“We are very grateful to the Prime Minister who has announced this decision which is in line with the WPP given through PTPTN.
“Students who register at higher learning institutions will be able to use the money for registration and other needs when registering later,” he said.
Existing students facing difficulties in paying tuition fees will not be blocked from registering for subjects as the payments can now be settled afterwards.
During a Ministry of Finance assembly earlier this month, Anwar also issued instructions to public universities not to refuse the admission of poor students or those unable to pay the fees.
It was to ensure that students get the opportunity to pursue their studies regardless of their financial backgrounds.
