Foot scrubbers from discarded corncobs by KVC students
Kota Kinabalu: A team of three 19-year-old cosmetology students from Keningau Vocational College (KVC) has developed an innovative foot scrubber made from discarded corncobs, earning recognition in numerous competitions.

The product, named “Co-Scrubber,” was created by Rosbianahlin Rosli, Zetty Sherlin and Farisyah Sahipin as their final year project.

Their innovation earned them a silver award at the International Creative and Innovative Idea Competition (ICIIC) in February 2025 and second place at the Taman Bandukan Music Festival recycling contest in November 2024.

The eco-friendly foot scrubber utilises every part of the corncob, including a bowline knot made from the husk.

Unlike traditional pumice stones, which can cause bleeding and infection risks, Co-Scrubber’s natural corn bristles provide gentle exfoliation that effectively softens calluses and removes dead skin while protecting the skin’s integrity.

Beyond its cosmetic benefits, the innovation addresses environmental concerns by repurposing agricultural waste.

The project also presents potential economic opportunities for corn vendors and farmers, who could generate additional income by selling their discarded corncobs for product creation.

KVC Director Lumang Anak Lang praised the team’s initiative, noting that the project exemplifies the college’s goal of nurturing innovative entrepreneurs who can create commercially viable products while contributing to environmental conservation.

The students are now planning to launch Co-Scrubber as a social enterprise with support from their college.
