11 traditional sports at fest

Kota Kinabalu: Eleven traditional sports will be competed in this year's State-level Ka'amatan Festival 2015 to be held on May 30 and 31 at the Main Traditional Sports Camp of Hongkod Koisaan in KDCA Penampang.Among the sports available are Mipulos (armwrestling), Rampanau (bamboo-stilt), Terompak Gergasi, Monopuk (blow pipe), Momolisitik (slingshot), Mamagandal (paddy lifting), Tumutu (paddy pounding), Mangapui (fire lighting), Migazat Dukug (tug of war), Manandus (javelin) and Monungkava Kalabau (buffalo roping).

The games are open to all Malaysian above 18 years of age and no entry fee is needed to register for any of the available sports.

"We have decided not to include any registration fees as this will maximize more entries for the games," said Sabah Sports Board Director, Datuk Louis Rampas during a press conference on Tuesday.

"We also encourage tourists who are visiting KDCA during this Harvest Festival to join in the games as there are special prizes for them," he added.

The festival's Traditional Sports Managing Chairman also expressed his gratitude to all the sponsors that supported the annual traditional celebration.

Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman is expected to officiate the Traditional Sports 2015 opening ceremony at KDCA Penampang on May 30 while the closing ceremony to be close by the Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin on May 31.
