'Earn' from Folklore Fest
Kota Kinabalu: Pack your camera along to this year's Sabah International Folklore Festival (SIFF) and you can be RM1,500 richer. A photography contest is expected to run concurrently with the SIFF event here from Aug 11 to 15.

Sabah Cultural Board Chairman Datuk Seri Wences Anggang on Monday said all snapshots must be based on the activities carried out during the event to win.

"The photography contest will be from Aug 10 to Aug 15 and the presentation of prizes will be on Aug 16 during the SIFF farewell ceremony at the Sabah Art Gallery," he said during a meeting with the members of the Sabah Professional Photography Society, here.

Meanwhile, he assured photo opportunities will be aplenty, naming the SIFF village, the Folkart Festival, the international and local folkdance competitions, City International Cultural Parade, the Traditional Foods and Handicraft Exhibition and an excursion to the National Park or to Tunku Abdul Rahman among them.

Fifteen folk dance troupes from 15 nations are expected to showcase their own unique folk dance here at the tenth edition of SIFF here simultaneously in two main venues, the Sabah Art Gallery and the Penampang Cultural Centre.

The top prize will be RM1,500, RM1,000 and RM700 for second and third placed winners. Fifteen other best shots will be picked as consolation prizes worth RM300 each.

The photos will be judged a select-committee composed of members from the Sabah Professional Photographer's Society.

Also present at the meeting was Sabah Publishing House Managing Director cum Sabah Professional Photographer's Society Honorary Life President Datuk Clement Yeh.
