Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah's Al-Haaq Group on Monday said it recently refurbished a Kafa school structure in Kampung Penimbawan in Tuaran. UMS Al-Haaq members comprise staff from the Registrar, Chancellery, Treasury, Information and Communication Departments of the university.

Some 100 members took part in the charity work, involving repainting classes, installing new white boards and windows.

For security, a new fence was also installed to ensure items in the classrooms will not be stolen, as well as to keep stray dogs from entering the facility.

Speaking at the launching of the charity work, Local Government and Housing Ministry Political Secretary Kassim Razali said this was unlike previous charity work carried out by the university, saying normally such charity is carried out by students, but this time it's the staff.

UMS Registrar No'man Datuk Ahmad said UMS is always prepared to be involved in the development of the students' education along with local communities.

"It is our hope the young school-going children would learn in a comfortable environment," he said.

Kampung Panimbawan in Tuaran is located near the Serusup Bay and is only accessible by boat.
