KOTA SAMARAHAN: The 11th Sarawak election will certainly remain a unique experience for Cpl Mahmud Pawi, 56, as an early voting polling centre with a polling stream was opened at the Kota Samarahan police although he was the only voter at the centre."I feel honoured by the Election Commission's decision to open a polling centre to show how valuable a single vote is worth in a democratic voting process like ours.

"I did not expect to be the only voter in this polling stream. This is my first experience and I will remember this forever," he told Bernama after casting his ballot here Tuesday.

Mahmud Pawi, who is among voters in Sadong Jaya, has been in the police force for the past 35 years and currently based in the 11th Battalion of the General Operations Force in Batu Kawah, Kuching.

A total of 24,604 early voters cast their ballots at 79 polling centres and 100 polling streams throughout Sarawak, Tuesday.

Thirty-three of the 79 polling centres closed at 2pm and the rest at 5pm.

However, counting of these ballots will start at 4pm on polling day (May 7) and done at the vote tallying centres in the presence of polling agents of the respective candidates. – Bernama
