Papar: Two tourists from China suffered serious head injuries and another seven were slightly hurt when the tour bus they were in went out of control and ended up in a drain at Km16.5 along Jalan Lama Papar-Kota Kinabalu, Friday.District Police Chief DSP George Abdu Rakman said the mishap in which the local bus driver was also slightly injured occurred near Kg Marahang, Kawang, at 2.10pm.

The tour bus was carrying nine tourists from China but only a 29-year-old man, Liu Yang Fei and a 27-year-old woman Ma Lin were seriously hurt and both were referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) 2 for further treatment.

The other seven tourists in the tour bus, he said, escaped with minor injuries along with the tour bus driver who was given outpatient treatment at the hospital.

"Our investigation revealed that a Toyota Hilux overtook the bus and suddenly went into its lane which caused the tour bus driver to step on the brakes but the driver lost control of the wheel and it crashed in a drain.

"The mishap occurred during heavy rain and it is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving," George said.
