'Use tournament to improve Malaysia's world ranking'

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) Honorary President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah wants the national hockey team to take advantage of playing at home in the Asian Champions Trophy (ACT).Tengku Abdullah, who is also Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) president, said Malaysia should use the tournment to improve its 13th world ranking.He said International Hockey Federation (FIH) has agreed to give points for world ranking at ACT to be hosted by Malaysia for the first time from Oct 19-30 in Kuantan, Pahang.

"FIH is also embarking on a new World Hockey League format which involves qualification for the World Cup and Olympics Games," he said after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for ACT on behalf of AHF while MHC was represented by its president, Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal.The ACT involve Asia's best six hockey nations namely Pakistan, India, Japan, China, South Korea and Malaysia.– Bernama
