Kota Kinabalu: Four people sustained injuries in a fire at the Pangi Hydro Power Station in Tenom on Monday. The State Fire and Rescue Operations Centre in a statement here said the four people, including two women, were rushed to the hospital due to burns.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at about 3.05pm after receiving a distress call at about 1.02pm.

Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) Senior General Manager (Asset Management) Muhamad Nazri Pazil said the fire involved a hydro turbine in the main building of the hydro power station in Tenom Pangi.

He said investigations are being done to identify the cause of fire and urges the public not to speculate until investigations are completed.

Power supply channelled from the station to the Sabah Grid system was also forced to temporarily shut down.

The incident also caused power disruption to consumers in Tenom, Keningau and Tambunan from 12.45pm.

Power supply in the affected areas has yet to be restored as at 5pm, Monday.

He said they are working hard to restore the power through alternative sources.

Consumers are encouraged to contact their hotline 15454 or 088-515000 should they have any power disruption in their area.
