Amok man shot dead in Lahad Datu

Lahad Datu: A man who ran amok and tried to hurt people near him died after he was shot by policemen trying to calm him down.District Police Chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said the man, identified as Ronald Engliong, aged about 40, died on the way to hospital following the 7.20am incident on Wednesday."We received information about an aggressive man who was trying to hurt people near Kg Merabung, not far from Lahad Datu town, and went to investigate," he said.

He said the man hurled a rock at policemen who were trying to calm him down.The rock hit a policeman on the head and the officer had to be taken to hospital for treatment, he said, adding the policemen had to shoot Ronald in self-defence.
