Two Sabahans at World Youth Weightlifting Championship

Kota Kinabalu: Two Sabahans will be featured in the World Youth Weightlifting Championship 2016 organised by International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and Malaysia in Penang starting today until Oct 25 at the "SPICE" (formerly known as PISA) indoor stadium.Sabah Weightlifting Association President Philip Gisan said, 16-year-old Elly Casandra Engelbert who won two bronze in the Kuching Sukma Games and 15-year-old Nilcy Tunik will take part in the women's 53kg and 44kg respectively, while 20-year-old Kartina Dumin who won silver in the women 69kg clean and jerk as well as a bronze in the snatch category at the Sukma Games in July, is the only Sabah athlete taking part in the Commonwealth Junior Weightlifting Championship to be held after the World Juniors competition at the same venue from Oct 26-30.

Meanwhile, Philip has been appointed as International Technical Official at both championship and he is delighted with the role given by IWF .

"It is an honour to be an official at an international event especially in a world championship like this and I am very proud and thankful with the appointment and trust given by the World Body.

" I was last given the role as IWF official in a major international meet way back in the 2000 Asian Weightlifting Championship in Thailand," he said.
