Missing – Aussie report on the Nomad crash
Kota Kinabalu: The Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has revealed that they were unable to assist to locate the report on the Nomad plane accident, which took the lives of Sabah's most prominent leaders on June 6, 1976.Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Salleh (pic) said he had received a letter from the High Commission, dated Sept 28, which stated that following a preliminary check of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) website and consultations with the Australian Federal Police, they have not been able to locate a record of the investigation report into the incident.

Harris said he had taken the initiative to write to the Australian High Commission after SAPP President and former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee had persistently said publicly that there must be something sinister that the report has not been published.

"I now wish to give you a copy of the letter from the Australian High Commission. If you still harbour any suspicion or wish to peruse the case further, you may write to the Australian High Commission or any pertinent Australia authorities," he said.

At the same time, Harris also dared Yong to accuse him publicly that he was responsible for the accident or for the keeping of the report from surfacing.

"You can do that again so that we can face each other in the court one more time. Otherwise, forever keep your silence," he said.

The accident, dubbed Double Six, caused the death of several Sabah Cabinet Ministers, including Chief Minister Tun Fuad Stephen. For years, several speculations have surfaced, including conspiracy theories.

accusations that the accident was staged by certain parties, and Harris' name had been persistently linked to that dark day of Sabah's history.

The conspiracy theorists also pointed out to the fact that almost immediately after the incident, Harris signed the Petroleum Agreement 1976 with the Federal Government which sealed the fate of Sabah's oil rights.
