'Sabahans will reject inconsistent Shafie'
Sabahans will reject former Umno Vice President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, who is now leading new local-based opposition Parti Warisan Sabah, due to inconsistency in his political struggle.Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan (pic) said Warisan would not pose a threat to Umno and the ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional (BN).

He is confident that the slogan "Sabah for Sabahans" being used by Shafie would not get the support of the people in Sabah as they are smart and mature.

"I believe Shafie will not get the people's trust and solid support in the state as he has been inconsistent in what he is fighting for.

"Only six months ago, he was putting emphasis on the importance of strong ties and collaboration between the federal and state governments. But now, he talks differently.

"If I want to make a comparison with another Sabah leader…it would be Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan who is the party Star leader who has been consistent in fighting for Sabah, and yet being rejected by the people in the last general election as there is only one elected people representative from the party (Star)," he said.

Speaking after hosting a luncheon for the Sabah delegates at the Umno General Assembly, Saturday, Rahman said the people of Sabah are pragmatic as they see the good and benefits from good cooperation and close ties between the federal and state government although there are other quarters fighting for the state.

On the Umno General Assembly, Rahman who is also Kota Belud MP, said it reflected a stability where the president and others are more comfortable in discharging their duties as those who are not in the same wavelength with the party's struggle are no longer in the party.

He said the president's speech has placed importance on strengthening unity and urged the party members not to be burdened by allegations made by the opposition against them as opposition will always be the opposition that only has interest to find the party's weaknesses and mistakes.

"While we face the opposition, we must not forget the reason why we are in politics which is for the sake of all Malaysians and to develop the country and safeguarding the unity and wellbeing of the people.

"The party president has dropped the biggest hint that the next 14th General Election is coming and we (party) are prepared as Umno is a big party with extensive experience," he said.

Rahman believed the people would cast their votes for a party that can safeguard the country's security aspect and ensure the nation progress towards excellence.

"Although many people are complaining about the party and BN now, at the end, I believe they will vote for a party that has vast experience and able to protect the nation's security which is Umno and BN," he said.

Meanwhile, Umno Beluran Divisional Chief Datuk James Ratib is confident that the people in the district will continue to give undivided support to Umno and BN in the upcoming general election as they have benefitted many physical developments and rural infrastructures provided by the BN government all this while.

He said BN has also carrying out many programmes that elevate the living standard and socio-economy of the people in Beluran.

"Before this, the local and rural communities in Beluran faced many difficulties especially in ferrying their agricultural produce which is the main activity of the people there as the main transportation is mostly through river.

"The prices of goods are also high following no good condition of roads until the transportation costs went up.

However, the BN government is bringing many infrastructure developments to Beluran," he said.

Ratib cited the price of gas cylinder that was previously priced at RM50 per tong in Beluran has gone down to about RM35 now due to availability of good roads heading to the district.
