Kota Kinabalu: Borenos Fried Chicken has joined the list of litter-free restaurant and plastic bag use reduction establishments in the city that have been recognised by Kota Kinabalu City Hall. The Borenos restaurant is the 23rd litter-free restaurant after KFC to receive the litter-free recognition.

Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai said with this recognition the total number of litter-free premises has reached 152 (and 377

entry for plastic bag use reduction establishments) since the City Hall anti-litter bug campaign was launched in 2008.

He said this in a speech which was read out by City Hall's Health Department Director Robert Lipon at the handing over of the certificate of recognition to Borenos restaurant representative at the Borenos Fried Chicken Restaurant at Asia City on Monday.

Yeo said he wished to remind once again that the litter-free zone recognition meant that litter cannot be seen to be anywhere but in rubbish bins. He said this meant that Borenos staff and their customers cannot litter indiscriminately.

"The litter-free recognition on Borenos or other litter-free establishments can be withdrawn or ended if it is found that there is rubbish thrown indiscriminately both within and outside the restaurant.

"In this, I urge the management of Borenos to ensure that the premises surroundings are kept litter-free at all times."

He also called on the restaurant to practise food waste separation from domestic waste in an effort to combat the problem of leachate and blocked manholes and drains from cooking oil food waste.

Yeo also urged the premises to practise separation of recyclable waste as a show of support for City Hall's 3R (reduce, recycle, reuse) programme to create awareness on the responsibility of the public to be environment friendly.
