Tawau: A 36-year-old man was reported missing at the Bukit Gemok Forest Reserve, Kg. Pasir Putih Jalan Sin San here since last Friday.According to his wife Senawati Babu, 37, the last time she met her husband Tarappe Beddue was last Wednesday (Feb 22) before he went to his workplace at an ice factory near Taman Univilla, here.

"He left the house extraordinarily early that day and did not return home at Kg Tanjung Baru Logpond on the same day. I was notified that he went to his father's house in Kg Pasir Putih. "I becoming worried when my husband did not return home last Thursday and sought assistance from family members and friends to look for him. Later I decided to lodge police report on Feb 24 (last Friday).

"Nonetheless, the police advised us to look for him because several villagers claimed that they saw my husband near a man-made swing on a tree near the Bukit Gemok Forest Reserve near Kg. Pasir Putih, last Friday," she said.

After failing to look for her husband at the identified area, Senawati said they lodged another police report at about 10am seeking the authorities' help.

Until Sunday (Feb 26), she said they found a pair of slippers belonging to Tarappe about 100 metres from the swing on a tree and his shirt and a pair of pants that led her to lodge a police report on the findings, on Monday.

Senawati said her husband who is a father to three children aged between five and 11 went missing twice, the first at Sungai Klang in 2015.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Department Acting Chief Faisal Ahmad said they have conducted a search and rescue operation for Tarappe after receiving a call from Tawau police station at 6.50am on Tuesday.

He said seven personnel and two fire engines went to the foot of the Bukit Gemok Forest Reserve where police, K-9 unit and Civil Defence Force and Forestry Department also rendered assistance.

Initially, Faisal said the department received a distress call at 7.27pm on Monday (Feb 27) but they could not go to the location due to falling lights. At press time, the missing man had yet to be found. - Lagatah Toyos
