Penampang: State PKR says SAPP president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee contradicted himself by calling on Sabahans to reject fellow opposition Pakatan Harapan which he claimed to be no different from Barisan Nasional as both are Malaya-based coalitions. The party's Penampang Chief Kenny Chua said strangely that Yong never raised such sentiment when he was in the BN and once serving as Chief Minister at that.

"When he was in the BN, not a word about anti-Malaya parties was ever spoken.

Why make a fuss about this now? Is it because of the coming election?" he asked.

Chua also said the same of former BN minister Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin whose Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah is currently in Gabungan Sabah, a coalition of four opposition parties including SAPP, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) and Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah.

He recalled when Lajim was the State PKR chairman, he had on numerous occasions stressed the importance of cooperation between local and national opposition parties in order change the Constitution.

"He had said that without national opposition parties, there's no way local parties could change anything even if they win the election," he claimed.

Chua was referring to Yong's recent statement when he claimed that Pakatan Harapan and BN parties were the same for they have Malaya's interest in mind.

Yong had also called on voters in Sabah to support local parties, saying they have a better understanding of their aspirations and demands, particularly for Sabah's rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

As it was not the first time Pakatan Harapan parties have come under such criticism by fellow opposition colleagues, Chua took Yong's statement as nothing more than an "old auntie's irritating nag."

He suggested that Yong should issue more statements that reflect a strong unity in the opposition camp ahead of the coming general election.

"I wish to remind him that we have a common enemy in the BN. If he continues to attack other opposition parties, I'm afraid people will start questioning which side he and Gabungan Sabah parties are actually taking," said Chua.

Other than PKR, parties in the Pakatan Harapan pact are DAP, Amanah and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM). - Leonard Alaza
