Fake pistol via WeChat lands man in prison

Kota Kinabalu: A self-employed local was jailed a day and fined RM3,500 or six months' jail, Thursday, for having an imitation pistol.Ajirin Rasin admitted before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to having the imitation gun under the driver's seat of a Proton Saga FLX at 5.50am on Aug 2 near a road to Kg Cempaka, Likas.

Ajirin said he used the pistol to shoot at birds that disturbed the chilli crops at his orchard.

Inspector Albert Basiri, prosecuting, told the court that Ajirin was detained by police who found the imitation gun in the car boarded by Ajirin.

The police also found a magazine containing 19 white beads believed to be pellets.

Further investigations revealed that Ajirin bought the imitation pistol online through the WeChat application for RM250 in early June this year.

Counsel Bibiana Chew, representing Ajirin, requested for a fine on the grounds that it was Ajirin's first offence.

The offence under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, on conviction.

Meanwhile, an entertainment outlet owner was fined RM3,000 or 14 days' jail for operating the premises beyond the permitted time.

Pang Choi Yu, 43, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to operating the Club Mix R&B Pub at Pekan Koidupan in Penampang at 2.30pm on July 15, this year.

Inspector Rasydan Jasni, prosecuting, told the court that a police team conducting an operation went to the premises and found it still operating with loud music and with the presence of visitors.

Investigation revealed that the premises was operated beyond the permitted time.

Pang had committed an offence under Section 4(1) of the Public Entertainment Ordinance 1958, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to one year's jail, or both, on conviction.

He was not represented.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old, Herwandi Roselane, was jailed eight months for having 0.06gm of syabu at 11.07am on July 28 at Kg Sembulan Lama.

Another man, Yacob Dulahim, 39, was fined RM2,200 or six months' jail for taking drugs here on July 28. - Jo Ann Mool
