Kuching: A total of 16 memorandum of understandings (MOUs), worth US$2.5 billion, were sealed Tuesday in conjunction with the 13th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF), the largest in the history of the forum. Nine of the MOUs were inked with international organisations from Canada, China, the United States and Indonesia and included partnership and collaborations within the technology, halal food and energy sectors to name a few.

The MOUs, among others, were between Sacofa Sdn Bhd and Indonesia-PT Super Sistem Ultima; Resonic Consultancy and the US- Fintech4Good Group LLC; Noble Fairway Sdn Bhd and Canada Triwin Holdings Group Ltd; and a tripartite agreement between the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation Sdn Bhd, Department of Islamic Development Malaysia and Hall Amanie Sdn Bhd.

The exchange was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, accompanied by Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Dr Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg and WIEF Foundation Chairman Tun Musa Hitam.

In the last five years, the WlEF has facilitated trade deals from diverse industry sectors among both Muslim and non-Muslim nations amounting to some US$13 billion.

Themed, 'Disruptive Change: Impact and Challenges', the WIEF provided an excellent platform for deeper discussions on industry growth sectors through customised programmes, namely panel discussions, master classes, initiative room, exhibition, and business exchange.

The annual forum gathered leading global government leaders, captains of industry, academicians, regional experts, professionals, corporate managers, policymakers, innovators, business leaders and investors from around the world to unlock the next phase of collaboration and growth against a new economic order.

This year's edition would feature more than 40 speakers globally including Apple Inc Co-Founder Steve Wozniak.

A total of 2, 476 participants from 75 countries, including Malaysia, are attending the three-day forum which began Tuesday. – Bernama
