KK versus K'batangan in final

Sandakan: The 8th Sabah Games (Saga) men's football final today (Friday) will see two first-time finalists Kota Kinabalu and Kinabatangan battling it out for the 'Mother of all golds' at the Sandakan Sports Complex at 3pm.Kota Kinabalu coach Roslan Wasli, when met on Thursday, said this was more good news for his squad as it ranks as among their best achievements following their recent Chief Minister's Cup win.

"Winning Saga is one of the three targets that had been set by our President, besides the CM Cup and the People's Football League, and we hope that Kota Kinabalu will capture gold at the Sandakan Saga," he said.

He added the feat would surely lift Kota Kinabalu football to greater heights under the leadership of Safa Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu President, Alijus @ Mohd Ali Sipil.

Safa Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu Deputy President Matasan Amat hopes the squad will put in a good performance in the final.

Matasan said he was satisfied with his team's performance at this Saga and is expecting a hard-fought encounter in the final.

Kota Kinabalu's path to the final included a 2-2 draw with Lahad Datu, 1-0 wins over Sipitang and Nabawan, and a 2-0 win over Tuaran in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, Kinabatangan's coach Balzet Dausin said they too were happy that the squad is making their first appearance in a Saga football final.

"We hope our players who are selected will play without pressure and maintain their game."

Kinabatangan reached the gold medal match after emerging group winners and beating Nabawan 2-0 in the semi-final.

The third place play-off match on Thursday saw Nabawan beating Tuaran 2-0 to clinch the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, the women's football final between Penampang and Tenom will be held today (Friday) at the Sandakan Sports Complex at 8am.

On Thursday, Tuaran won the bronze medal defeating Tongod 3-0. - Mardinah Jikur
