Man held for stealing Myvi at Tambunan church

Keningau: A 24-year old was arrested for stealing a white Perodua Myvi at a church in Tambunan, Tuesday.District Police Deputy Chief Supt Ahmad Jawila said police received a report from the victim on Jan 14.

"Preliminary investigations shows that the victim went to the church at 7.30am for Sunday service and parked the car with all the doors locked but found it missing when service ended.

"Based on the information from the victim, the Penampang Mobile Patrol Vehicle found the car at the roadside of Kg Moyog at about 11am.

"An investigating officer and Keningau JSJ Operation Team found several things in the car," he said during a press conference at Keningau IPD, here, Tuesday.

Ahmad said 11 different fingerprints were found on the car.

"Based on tip off, a team of police led by Inspector Roning Mulut arrested a man involved who was found hiding in a house.

"About 32 items were seized, including the white Perodua Myvi, three Toyota car keys, an Isuzu car key, a bag filled with syringes and a yellow box also filled with syringes, driving licence, two MyKads and several other items.

"The suspect is also involved in a clinic break-in case in Tambunan on Jan 7 as well as a house break-in case on Dec 28," he said. The suspect is remanded for four days until Jan 18 and the case is currently being investigated under Section 379A which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both.

The suspect is also tested positive for drugs and had three jail records in 2014 and 2015. - Eleanor Ruby
