SME Platinum Business Awards

Kota Kinabalu: The SME Association of Malaysia and the SME Association of Sabah will be launching its Platinum Business Awards (PBA) 2018 Sabah Roadshow at The Ming Garden Hotel and Residences here on Saturday (June 23).Its Sabah Co-founder Datuk Frankie Liew Chun Tai said the event, which will start at 12.30pm, will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal.

He said the Platinum Business Awards (PBA) is a premium awards platform to benchmark business performance and quality standards of SMEs and individuals in the fields of products, branding and operations.

"As one of the pioneering awards for SMEs in Malaysia, PBA has gained pre-eminent status among the SMEs and the business community in Malaysia, " Frankie who is also the SME Sabah Chapter permanent honorary president said.

Since last year, Frankie said PBS has crossed the border to include the participation of SMEs from Asean countries by introducing the Asean Enterprise Award.

In 2017, he said a new category, The SME Internet of Things Award, was introduced to honour businesses involved in digital economy.

According to Frankie, the theme for this year's event is "Local Innovation, Global Recognition".

"The rise of smart factories, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things will change the conventional ways of SMEs in organizing their businesses. Hence, there is urgent need for SMEs to adopt cutting-edge technologies," he stressed adding that the theme is designed to encourage more SMEs to continue to innovate in pursuit of excellence.

Frankie confirmed that among the guests for the event are in Deputy President of SME Association of Malaysia Ong Chee Tat who will share knowledge on the impact of Industry 4.0 on the operations, production, and management of SMEs.

Recognised in the market for its stringent assessment process, PBA2018 is spearheaded by a Board of Selection chaired by Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI) Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Michael Yeoh.

The Board of Selection enjoys high reputation among SMEs and business communities.

Frankie stressed that SMEs are encouraged to participate in the PBA2018.

Since its inception, he said SME Malaysia has organized various international conferences, seminars, award programmes, and educational and capacity-building programmes to educate, elevate, and provide exposure to members of the Association and the SME community at large.

The Association actively engages in advocacy and consultation with key Government ministries and various agencies to provide feedback on issues affecting SMEs, Frankie added. - Nikko Fabian
