A new schooling plan needed for stateless kids

Tawau: State Assistant Minister for Sabah Jimmy Wong Sze Phin strongly urged the Education Ministry to develop a new schooling plan for stateless kids so that they can contribute to the labour demand in future.Jimmy, who is also Sri Tanjung Assemblyman, said a new schooling plan is needed to prevent these innocent children from being forced to work without any knowledge and skills. He was speaking to the media after meeting Assistant State Education Director of Chinese School Unit, Tham Yun Fook and the Education Department officer Haji Darman Shah bin Haji Asakil at the grand opening of multipurpose hall of SJKC Yuk Chin Sunday.ADVERTISEMENT According to the current system, stateless kids can only complete their primary studies before they are allowed to work.There have many stateless kids who are very talented have gone on to tertiary institutions. But, the limitation of the current education system in Malaysia has affected their (stateless kids) bright future.Jimmy said they are too young to come out to work in society and encounter unfair exploitation until some get involved in social problems.

Thus, he strongly urged the Government, through the Ministry, to review the current education system.Stateless kids who have completed their primary studies should be able to fill in a pink form and submit to any government-secondary school so that they can further their studies.
