Tawau: Assistant Finance Minister Sarifuddin Hata has proposed to the Youth and Sports Ministry for Tawau Sports Complex to be turned into an alternative venue for Sabah Football Association (Safa) in the new season of the Malaysian League."We are currently discussing the matter with the relevant ministry and to date, it is being agreed verbally," he said during the 2018 World Cup Carnival at the sports complex, Sunday.

"We will request several key Malaysian League matches involving the State team to be played in Tawau apart from the main venue in Likas Stadium, Kota Kinabalu.

"This will not only provide an opportunity for Tawau football fans to watch our team in action, but also the people around Kunak, Lahad Datu and Semporna."

On the carnival, it attracted more than 2,000 fans who gathered under the heavy downpour to watch the final Fifa World Cup match between eventual winner France and Croatia through a giant screen installed at the complex.

Meanwhile, Sarifuddin who is also Merotai assemblyman plans to hold more interesting programmes for youths in the district. - Lagatah Toyos
