Joint choir concert on July 10

Kota Kinabalu: There will be a joint choir concert by the Australian Boys Choir, the Vocal Consort & Bell Choir Kian Kok Middle School on July 10 at the Kian Kok Middle School Hall. The public are cordially invited and tickets are available for purchase at Kian Kok Middle School.The Australian Boys Choir (since 1939) is based in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, which often conducts concerts internationally, and together with the Kelly Gang and Vocal Consort comprises the performing groups of the Australian Boys Choral Institute.

Their artistic director, Noel Ancell, is well known throughout Australia as a conductor, composer and teacher. Highly regarded as clinician and adjudicator, he has over 30 years' experience in helping musicians to achieve excellence.The Australian Boys Choir has worked under many international conductors, including Zubin Mehta, Jorge Mester, Hiroyuki Iwaki, John Hopkins and Sir Bernard Heinze, and with great orchestras (including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) as well as many of Australia's leading choirs.The Australian Boys Choir considers it essential to tour overseas regularly to demonstrate and celebrate the richness and diversity of our country's cultural heritage. The Choir's repertoire includes works from around the world, as new works are constantly added to reflect the countries visited.

The Choir represented Australia in the Winter Olympics held in Japan; performed at the prestigious America Fest festival of men's and boys' choirs in 1998, 2000 and 2002; taken part in a millennium choral festival at the Vatican in Rome and appeared at the World Symposium on Choral Music in Minneapolis. In 2010, the Australian Boys Choir undertook a very successful tour of Singapore and Malaysia. The Bell Choir Kian Kok Middle School was established in 1989, and has a 24-year history. The Bell Choir has about 61 members and Connie Ng is the instructor of the Bell Choir, assisted by two teacher advisors Ong Kin Lun and Teo Tiong Tzin.

The Bell Choir emerged as champion in the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Patriotic Choir Song competition in Kuala Lumpur in year 2010, 2011 and 2012 respectively. Recently, they also won the secondary school choir competition and best conductor, organised by the Kota Kinabalu District Education Office.
