15 Merdeka babies in LD

Lahad Datu: A total of 15 babies, eight of them girls, were born on Independence Day at Lahad Datu Hospital on Sunday.Lahad Datu Hospital Director Dr. Tan Hee Ting said the first Merdeka baby born at the district hospital this year was a girl at about 1.12am and the last Merdeka baby was born at 11.45pm.

The proud parents of one of the babies are Felda Sahabat employees Gasali Djunaidi, 28, and wife, Siti Nadiah Wahid, 27.

According to Siti Nadiah, she started going into labour at about 5.30pm on Sunday and was rushed to the hospital from their house at Felda Sahabat.

Siti Nadiah said her daughter was doing fine, adding that she weighed 3 kilogrammes when she was born.

"I am so happy and thankful to have her," she said.

Siti Nadiah added that giving birth to her daughter on Independence Day made her proud and Merdeka Day will be forever etched in her memory, not only as Malaysian but also as a mother.
