KOTA KINABALU: MCA National Youth Chief Senator Wong Sin Woon likened political promises to "a pregnant woman"."The only thing people expect is delivery !"Wong said in a keynote address delivered in Mandarin at the 2nd MCA Sabah Youth Convention last Saturday in an apparent attempt to drive his youth wing to focus on performance, attributing the analogy to what Idris Jala had said at a MAC political seminar.

"In a nutshell, that's what will take to create public trust and sustain public support ," said Wong who underscored the compelling reason for MCA's current drive towards party transformation initiated by Party President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

" There is a lot to this transformation programmes which Liow had initiated, from the party election system to selection of candidates such as asking folks on the ground what they think of them, not just what party members say about each other, how to secure our new political pathway, co-operation with Umno, our position in the BN – a lot of things they can discuss," Wong noted.

"I hope they'll support it, in terms of especially on party election system. We are pushing through the central delegate to become divisional delegates, like Umno, in 2016. Then it becomes a direct election system by 2019 so that every member can vote to hold the top leadership. That's the plan," Wong told Daily Express.

"But the most fundamental prerequisites for any leader, be it at the divisional , state or national level, is that you must understand the people, you must know clearly what are the problems the state is facing , the difficulties of the people and how they fit into the big picture like Sabah, only then we can claim to represent the voice of the people," Wong said.

He says that the MCA has such a strong and ubiquitous network of members that anywhere one goes across Malaysia , he can get instantaneous contact and response from MCA members for the best help.

"The flip side is all these strong organised party network can turn us into more and more exclusive among ourselves – all talking as insiders revolved around inside interest which limit us so that we cannot hear what the people outside are talking," Wong noted..

" Our voices don't get transmitted to people outside our walls . So what we need is the kind of transformation that besides internal transformation, the four wall of unity must be taken to the whole society, we must take transformation to the people ," Chong said in his key note speech.

" So I encourage every body if possible, to get into every area, every nook and corner, coffee shops, towns big and small to get to know what's on people minds and heart, to get to know exactly how the ordinary people look at MCA so that you can truly reflect their voices to the central party leadership," Wong urged .
